My Dear Friends,
I have written a book. It's called Can You Feel It? Stories from North Coast Pinball.
In late April of 2021, Heather and I were laboring to transform Hal's Emporium in Nehalem into North Coast Pinball and North Coast Mudworks. We had just pulled up the old carpet, and we had yet to paint, and the place looked and smelled like the construction site that it was. It didn't make sense to have any pinball machines in there at that point, but I had moved a couple in because I couldn't wait.
As I walked through the place imagining what it would become, an unfamiliar song started playing on our portable speaker. I turned it all the way up because it sounded interesting. Slowly, gradually, the song rose like a wave approaching the sand, then crashed over me in slow motion.
It was "Dayvan Cowboy" by Boards of Canada, and that is when I felt it for the first time.
After the song ended, I stopped to take a breath. Then I printed a sign from four sheets of paper and taped the pages to the wall to remind myself of what I was working towards.
CAN
YOU
FEEL
IT?
We've been in business for five years, and I still feel it. It feels pretty good. And now I have written a book about it—about what it's like here.
And the book is finished! It's on my coffee table right now for you to browse through. It's also available today on Amazon, and I'll have more copies for sale here soon.
I really hope you like my book. Thanks for being part of my life. ♡
