Can You Feel It?
stories from North Coast Pinball
“…another day, you may write in your journal that three people, who did not know each other a month ago, who live in three different towns, and who met each other playing pinball in your place, are now out on a hike together. Your journal will reflect a feeling that the purpose of your life has been fulfilled.”

“…five years later you'll write a weird little book. A book that's not so much about pinball as it is about how it feels at North Coast Pinball in Nehalem, Oregon, with hints to why it feels the way it does.
“A book about what it's like for the five-year-old peering through the window as you prepare to open. What it's like for your ten-year-old regular, back once again to improve on his high score. What it's like for the sullen teenager, dragged against their will on an obligatory family trip and finding some respite to sit quietly on your oversized beanbag and read from your mom's book of William Carlos Williams poems (oh! how she would love that) while their parents and siblings fawn over the games. What it's like for the sixty-something beach bum who comes in weekly for $20 in tokens, plays each game exactly once, and leaves her leftovers in the community donation jar. What it's like to spend your days on labor that aligns with your values. A book about what it's like to try and send people out into the world happier and more wholehearted than when they arrived.
“Not quite a how-to book: how it feels to make and be in a place that feels like this.”
